Unique lighting and artistry from Janna Ugone.

Designed with an enthusiasm for detail, the intricate painting and finely-crafted network of Janna Ugone’s innovative lighting lends a sculptural presence to her line. The distinctive pewter hardware detailed with Swarovski crystal, is carefully combined with the warmth of hand-painted parchment and ceramic lampshades. These offer a unique depth of surface achieved through rich layers of glazed and fired surfaces.

The ceramic shades are hand-poured, hand-glazed, hand-painted, signed and dated. They are durable, with permanent, light-fast surfaces. For cooling purposes, they are pierced in the shape of constellations (including Orion, Cassiopia, the Big Dipper, Bootes, Triangulum and Cepheus). They are often studded with silver and copper beads. The parchment shades are made to Ugone's design in oiled parchment, an old, hand-dipped process yielding warmth, translucency and durability. The hand-rendered, light-fast painterly surfaces are also signed and dated.

The stems are generally made of copper or aluminum; iron stems and olive wash finishes are also available. Bases are of green or black marble imported from Italy and Greece, custom-made to Ugone's specifications. The black marble is hand-buffed for a matte surface. Green, black and rust slate is custom-made in Vermont. The sculptural hardware (bobeches, collars and finials) are individually cast and hand-finished in natural brushed pewter. In some lamps Swarovski Austiran crystals are also used.
